Rocking music, an annoying kid brother and a mum and daughter who can’t see eye to eye, there's something for everyone in Freaky Friday. There’s even a bit of romance thrown in for good measure. If you enjoyed The Lizzie McGuire Movie, you’re going to love this! 15 year-old Anna is having a nightmare day. She’s copped 2 detentions at school, she’s caught her little brother Harry reading her secret diary to his friends. Now, to top the lot, she might miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime. Her band, Pink Slip, have been asked to try out for a regular gig. The problem is that it clashes with her mum's wedding rehearsal dinner. Anna’s mum, Tess, puts her foot down while Anna refuses to back down. It looks like things can’t get much worse when Anna and her mum have a big falling out at the Chinese restaurant. But life gets even more bizarre for them both after they eat identical fortune cookies. The next morning they wake up to discover they’ve switched bodies. That’s when their Freaky Friday adventure begins. There’s plenty to keep you laughing in this film, like Anna’s initial reaction when she realises she’s in her mum’s body; “I’m old. I’m like the crypt keeper.” That horror soon goes when she discovers she can use mum’s credit cards. Things get even more complicated when Anna’s latest crush, Jake, starts falling for her – but while she’s still in her mum’s body. 'Body switching’ has been done in lots of other movies before, but Freaky Friday still made me laugh. Jamie Lee Curtis (Tess) was really awkward as a teenager. She reminded me of other adults I’ve seen embarrassing themselves when they’re trying to be trendy. Lindsay Lohan (Anna) was very believable as an adult trapped in her daughter’s world. She looked really scared at times, especially when she was trying to play her daughter’s guitar at the gig. I give this movie a big 4 out of 5. It’s heaps of fun, has great music and a happy ending. |
